MO-TIP is a new project that offers free professionally trained medical interpreters for non-English speaking patients. Via the Missouri Telehealth Network (MTN), staff from Language Access Metro Project (LAMP) can provide interpretation in 30 languages for patients and providers. Funding for MO-TIP is provided in whole by the Missouri Foundation for Health through October 2010.
LAMP interpreters are available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Arrangements may be made for other times if necessary.
A completed Interpreter Request Sheet is needed for every appointment. Requests can be made by:
- Phone at 1-866-948-7133
- FAX at 1-314-842-1303

LAMP will confirm appointments with both the patient and the provider one business day prior to each appointment. This should help reduce the number of patient No Shows and Late Cancelations.
LAMP currently provides interpreters for these languages:
Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Bosnian, Burmese, Chinese – Mandarin, Chinese – Cantonese, Croation, Dari, Farsi, French, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Karen, Kirundi, Korean, Kunama, Kurdish, Nepali, Pashto, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tigrenya, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, and Vietnamese.
Again, it’s FREE and provides benefits for patients and providers.
Overall, MO-TIP will increase patient comprehension, compliance and satisfaction.
MO-TIP will help assure providers are in compliance with:
- CLAS (Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services) standards by reducing the linguistic and cultural barriers that exist between the providers and their non-English speaking patients.
- Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by allowing equal access for healthcare to their non-English speaking patients.
